On point 4, it seems many atheists equivocate "God" and "god." Capital G implies a necessary being on whose existence the world is contingent, whereas lower case g just refers to a finite being some people worship. Hence, when Dawkins et al say theists are atheists about "99%" of the gods that have ever been worshiped, they're making a category error

excellent responses, for sure. However, I wonder if you may not have kicked the can down the road regarding your own requirements for a meaningful life, and how uncertainty is related to the hiddeness of God. But that is a minor point of disagreement. Parody is a fitting response to the hubris of Sagan, his sycophant, and such folks.

Atheists can be dismissed simply on the claim that they know God doesn't exist. Extremely arrogant and idiotic. They don't know if he does or not, but boldly claim He doesn't because they haven't seen proof of a bearded men in a robe and sandals, and round and round it goes. I can respect agnostics for their honesty, but atheists are missing some essential human qualities.

The core of modern materialism is that the universe is simply the execution of the field equations of four fundamental forces. A fascinating billiard board (with quantum randomness) that explains everything that exists. Mostly this cosmovisión has been successful in explaining every phenomenon. We are (beautiful) machines. Of course as long as there is consciousness there is meaning: the meaning that you attribute.

"every phenomenon" is a really weird way to spell "literally nothing".

Just because you find an explanation satisfying doesn't make it sound.

But materialism can’t explain the mind, which is why idealism has always been its rival. Materialism will never be able to explain consciousness, rationality, or intentionality of the mental.
