Candace Owens has one of the biggest podcasts in the world. According to the Spotify charts she is ranked #31 in America. Many of the top 30 podcasts focus on sports or true crime. Candace Owens is the 8th biggest politics-themed podcast and the 4th biggest conservative politics-themed podcast after Tucker Carlson, the Wall Street Journal and Shawn Ryan.
Her content is pretty hardcore. She has expressed doubt about the holocaust and claims that the moon landing was a hoax. She also recently made a 6 part series claiming that the first lady of France, Brigitte Macron is actually a man. In 2024 she was fired from the Daily Wire over her criticism of Israel, her speculation about Jewish control of the media, and her clash with Daily Wire founder Ben Shapiro. She is now independent and her show has become bigger than Shapiro’s.
The defenders of mainstream opinion are alarmed by her growing popularity. E. J. Dickson of The Cut writes: “Candace Owens Has Gone Mainstream… Even in light of the culture’s recent turn rightward, Owens’s surge in popularity is jarring… promoted the racist conspiracy theory that George Floyd died of a drug overdose rather than asphyxiation…”
Candace’s show has been rising in popularity, especially among women. Her recent coverage of a celebrity spat involving actress Blake Lively has brought hundreds of thousands of apolitical women to her show. Her coverage is mostly celebrity drama, but it has an anti-MeToo element as well. Blake Lively made sexual harassment allegations that appear to have been totally fraudulent.
Years ago, Owens had a mostly male fanbase, like nearly all other conservative podcasters. Now her audience is 65% female. Her brand is bigger than ever. In addition to her podcast, she has started a book club and a fitness app for post-partum mothers.
Despite a pivot to some celebrity content, Owens is not downplaying her conservative affiliations. Her show contains ads for a pro-life charity that provides abortion-pill-reversal drugs. Her new book (which will presumably be read by most of the women in her book club) is called “Make Him A Sandwich: Why Women Don’t Need False Feminism.”
Owens’ Becoming Brigitte series calls Brigitte Macron ugly and concludes that she is probably a man who got a “sex change” operation. Normally, I’d think that was a pretty low blow, but the Brigitte Macron situation is a bit different. Brigitte Macron had sex with Emmanuel Macron when she was 38 and he was 15. Brigitte’s powerful friends in the mainstream media excuse and even glamorize this. I think if you have sex with a 15 year old when you’re in your 30s, you lose some of your right to be upset at people who invasively investigate your personal life.
And this brings me to the reason that I think that Candace Owens is a positive development for the media landscape and the culture in general. I think that most of what she says is crazy and false, but she is a wrecking ball who is doing tremendous damage to the mainstream cultural consensus, which is a very good thing.
I don’t believe that Brigitte Macron is a man. I don’t think that the moon landing was “fake and gay”. I think the vast majority of what Candace Owens says is false, but I think her impact on the media landscape has (unintentionally) been extremely positive. If the masses are going to believe slop, I’d rather they receive slop from a politically diverse range of sources, rather than the mono-slop which has dominated mass media for decades.
Hereditary elites like Shapiro1 and the Macrons2 hate that Candace Owens is mocking them, but they can do nothing about it. Owens’ war against the mainstream is especially delicious because the reason why she got her original platform is because of the stupid dogmas of mainstream ideology. Let’s make no bones about it, Ben Shapiro hired Candace Owens to the Daily Wire because she is a black woman. Owens originally had much more moderate political positions, but she was conspiracy-minded from the beginning. A white man who had a similar record of conspiracy-minded thinking would not have been even considered by Shapiro. Now that Owens has proven that she can make it on her own, Ben Shapiro’s affirmative action mentality has really come back to bite him in the rear.
Brigitte Macron was a wealthy woman in her late 30s who groomed and slept with a 15 year old boy. Elites in the mainstream media refuse to condemn Brigitte. Then along comes a muckraker, a person from a commoner background who has risen far above her station, Candace Owens, who calls out Brigitte’s sex abuse for what it was, investigates Brigitte’s personal life and declares to an audience of millions that Brigitte may be a man who had a sex change.
I like Ben Shapiro, but he’s a hardcore Jewish identitarian activist who is not particularly sympathetic to the idea that other groups, such as Palestinians or white people should also enjoy fair treatment. Instead of attacking America’s racial caste system head on, he thought he could curry favor within that system and gain brownie points with mainstream tastemakers by hiring a black woman to work at his company. Shapiro thought that Owens would be an obedient pet who would give conservatives cover against accusations of racism and sexism. Then that black woman called out his ethnic chauvinism, damaged Shapiro’s reputation, mainstreamed precisely the kind of talking points that Shapiro most hates, and went independent with a bigger audience than Shapiro.
The reason that Candace Owens’ attacks on these elite figures are so damaging to them is that they contain a grain of truth. Not many people will defend ethnic chauvinism or the sexual abuse of 15 year olds. Candace Owens forces those issues into the spotlight. Since elites no longer control the media, they are being forced to defend their positions on issues they’d rather not talk about. Ben Shapiro had no idea what he was creating.
Whatever her own motivations, Owens is functioning as an instrument of divine providence against corrupt, fatuous elites.
For a long time, the Left dominated Hollywood, the publishing houses, Academia, and the mainstream media, so normies were left-wing by default. Conservative media was available, but you had to seek it out at niche publications like the National Review. Most normal people don’t have enough interest in politics to do that.
But the internet has changed things. Now people can reach an audience directly, without mainstream gatekeepers. The dam is breaking. The masses of normie women who were never going to read the National Review but will watch Candace Owens’ celebrity drama content, are starting to break with the mainstream cultural consensus.
For a long time, the mainstream media could consign people with alternative ideas to the ghetto of “weirdness”. It is now losing that power.
She doesn’t even need to talk about political topics directly. Merely by existing and having a successful show, she sends the message that it’s ok to be a normal woman and also be a holocaust skeptic who writes books called “Make Him A Sandwich” and has serious questions about the MK Ultra program.
Furthermore, when Owens covers sensationalist non-political topics, they’re often adjacent to topics of more serious political import. One of the books in Candace Owens’ book club is Hollywood Babylon, a salacious exposé of scandals from 1950s Hollywood. From there it’s just a short step to learning about the influence of organized crime in Hollywood during the heyday of the silver screen.
Key Takeaway: Candace Owens is demolishing the credibility of the mainstream media among normie women. That’s a great thing. If the masses are going to believe slop, I’d rather they believe conservative slop, or at least a politically diverse assortment of slop.
Shapiro’s mother was a Hollywood producer. I’m sure he’s worked very hard and he was not born into enormous power, but he is not among the ranks of self-made media figures.
Brigitte Macron comes from very wealthy family.
It is fated that Kanye shall father a child with Candace. His name shall be Dark Adolph, and he will lead the world into a new age…
Ownes is obviously smart, skilled at defending what she believes, and photogenic. She also claimed that dinosaurs are a hoax to deny God.
